Walk the Land

A famous Jewish Sage (learned teacher) once taught " Even if one were to walk but four cubits in the Land, he merits The World To Come". There is something particularly special about walking in the Land of Israel that is hard to describe unless experienced and there is something particularly special about going into the nature of Israel on a hike and spending time with nature.

There are so many well marked and pathed experiences to allow you to do this. The Israel Nature and Parks Authority have many money saving passes to allow you to visit multiple sites and some favourite walks through nature include Ein Gedi pictured below an easy stop next to the Dead Sea on the way down to Masada to include in on your itinerary.

For those who are a bit more adventurous and independent, hiking trails in Israel are well marked with different colours, but you always have to let authorities know if you go out by yourself, we do still have some dangerous animals out and about as well as flash floods. The famous Israel Trail traverses Israel from the north to the south and takes about 3 months to do in total, but can be done in sections. There is a lot of amazing material written about walking the trail that should be researched properly before attempting to do it. It is a lot more deserted in areas compared to for example the Camino pilgrimage walk.

For something a bit more up that alley there is a 35km walk from Nazareth to Caperneum called the Jesus Trail which is a lot more user friendly - read about it here. In order to truly experience the Ministry of Jesus and walk in his footsteps this trail allows you to do that ending at the Sea of Galilee.

Walking in the land of the Bible is truly unique because you are fulfilling, the words that were given by G-d as it is written in Genesis 13:14-15 "The LORD said to Abram after Lot had parted from him, "Look around from where you are, to the north and south, to the east and west. All the land that you see I will give to you and your offspring forever."
